Millennia later, when Yugi Moto reconstructed the artifact, Atem emerged as a separate personality to guide his host through dangerous trials. He fought against those who sought to abuse the power of the Millennium Items, including Maximillion Pegasus, though his conflict with Seto Kaiba was primarily about dueling and personal rivalry rather than misuse of the Items. Throughout these conflicts, he slowly recovered fragments of his past life buried within the puzzle's magic. The climax of his journey involved restoring his true name so that history could remember him. By accepting help from Yugi and his friends, Atem proved that a person is defined by their connections rather than just their title or power. Crucially, it was Yugi Moto who spoke Atem's true name aloud during the final duel, breaking the seal of forgetting.
